Pteridium aquilinum; Bracken

I found this particular Bracken in Longford park (Chorlton), early December. Bracken is a commonly found as it self seeds and can be extremely difficult to remove. For this reason, Bracken is not usually found in well managed schemes.
This Bracken is would appear to be quite invasive as it has entirely overwhelmed some small evergreen shrubs growing beneath it, while no perennials have been able to grow in close proximity.

Although visually the fern brings colour variation to the surrounding evergreens, and bring contrast in its unique stem structure when compared to the surrounding shrubbery, the drawbacks would still outweigh its benefits. Bracken is a carcinogenic which means it has the potential to be incredibly harmful.
